ARTIST STATEMENT:
Can an article of clothing carry with it invisible ties and connections to the past and the people it may have come into contact with? My goal for this project is to connect with my mother and her side of the family through the act of restoring, wearing, and highlighting articles of clothing from her past.

Attempt I
I went to the fabric store yesterday with my sister to look at fabric and hopefully find a pattern to work with but I came out empty handed. I'm going to do a bit more research online so hopefully I won't feel like I'm so over my head. I've attained a sewing machine so I don't have to attempt this by hand (thank goodness!).

I really like your sketches. Don't get too stressed out! I really can't wait to see the finished dress with the photos attached.

you will getting harder. wow this is a lot. i love your idea. Keep going it.
ReplyDeletelooks good, judging by your track record, im sure whatever you come up with will look good and be meaningful
ReplyDeleteLooking good!
ReplyDeleteI lalaloove the first dress. The second would have to be my backup fave.
ReplyDeleteJust keep thinking and looking for solutions. It will pop up. Contracting a seamstress with your design is possibly an option as well. That's what designers do anyways-a lot of the time. I would go to etsy.com and put an ad for a custom dress with your design in the alchemy section for $30. I bet you will find someone good for that price. Then, you can just worry about sewing the pages on.
ReplyDeletei also like the first dress, im excited to see it!
ReplyDeleteI think the second dress is my favorite but I think all three will work well.
ReplyDeletei like the first dress the best. it seems to be the one with the most minimal design so it will put more emphasis on the photos as opposed to the design of the dress.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure as soon as you see the right fabric you will just know it is the one for this project! You will find it! The third dress sketch is my fav!

Cute sketches. Good luck with the sewing machine & the fabric.
ReplyDeleteI like the second dress the best, but they all look good. Keep up the hard work!

The first dress reminds me of something your mom might have worn. I think that is your vision; to have memories of your mom in the dress. Whenever I try too hard to make something work, I get really stressed out. Try letting your mind wander while taking a shower or listening to music. That always works for me.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to some photos!

All three of those dresses are super cute!! I think my favorite of them is the third. I think it sorta resembles the ones you have of your mothers. Good luck with the sewing machine and fabrics! I can't wait to see more! :D
ReplyDeleteMy personal favorite would have to be the third dress. Strapless dresses are way too common. I'm sure whatever you do will turn out beautiful though!=)
